Týr

法罗群岛前卫维京民谣金属团 Týr Country of origin: Faroe Islands Location: Tórshavn, Streymoy Status: Active Formed in: 1998 Genre: Progressive/Folk Metal Lyrical themes: Norse mythology, Paganism, Faroese/Nordic lore Current label: Metal Blade Records Years active: 1998-present The band stands on anti-racist positions and declared music without hate and violence. Formed in January 1998 by Faroe Islanders living in Copenhagen (at the time). Týr had their Faroese breakthrough in April 2001, when they participated in the bi-annual 'Prix Føroyar' contest. The live version of the song "Ormurin Langi", as performed at the contest, was featured on the "Prix Føroyar 2001" compilation CD. The song became the greatest Faroese hit ever in the Faroes. In early 2002, the same song hit bigtime in Iceland and paved the way for Týr's popularity there. According to both the Poetic, the Prose Edda and Skaldic poetry, Týr is both a title for old Norse gods in general and the name of them, Týr, the one-handed god. Terji Skibenæs filled in as a guitarist for Eluveitie on the US leg of the Paganfest 2008 tour while Eluveitie's drummer Merlin Sutter temporarily replaced Kári Streymoy (who was struggling with a back-injury at the time) on the US leg of Paganfest. Amon Djurhuus (Heljareyga), who is a student of Kári, played with Týr on the EU leg of Paganfest. As of 2018, their line-up is half Hungarian. Heri Joensen – guitars, lead vocals (1998–present) Gunnar H. Thomsen – bass, backing vocals (1998–present) Tadeusz Rieckmann – drums (2016–present) Hans Hammer – guitars (2021–present)
